World Solutions

From WaterGroup2014
Everyone is probably aware of the problems with our ecosystem, such as one of the most terrible problems, pollution. Pollution is a worldwide problem that makes our rivers and oceans and even the creatures that live in the water die. Many places around the world deal with this problem every day as their trash fills the water. Pollution begins when people start throwing their unneeded items such as cans and plastic bottles into the nearest river or ocean. Eventually, the water gets so filled with junk that the water becomes toxic, but it's not just toxic for us it's toxic to everything that has contact with the water.

Here's a website to more water pollution if you want to make a stop to it...
http://www.explainthatstuff.com/waterpollution.html

But it's not just pollution you have to be afraid of...
Something known as global warming has also affected our planet highly.
Global warming is basically our planet's climate is getting hotter and hotter by the second which can in some cases affect creatures that live in colder climates. This states that this could lead to these animals to become extinct. Just imagine having to go to a museum to show your kid what a penguin was. But this problem also continues to harm our lakes and rivers as they get warmer, and the poor creatures that live below in the water have no way to stop it.

This here is a whole website dedicated to preventing this...

Is This Our Ocean, or Pollution?

Microorganisms that live in water feed on biodegradable substances. When too much biodegradable material is added to water, the number of microorganisms increase and use up the available oxygen. This is called oxygen depletion.

When oxygen levels in the water are depleted, relatively harmless aerobic microorganisms die and anaerobic microorganisms begin to thrive. Some anaerobic microorganisms are harmful to people, animals and the environment, as they produce harmful toxins such as ammonia and sulfides. Text from: http://www.water-pollution.org.uk/oxygendepleting.html

The ocean can be polluted in these ways. Such as, suspended matter, which is when some pollutants do not dissolve and then get stuck and then animals lose their habitats and possible even kill animals.

The point source of pollution is, for ex: an oil spill. A point source has to be something you can point at and say “ that is the source of that pollution”.

A non-point source is when there is so many sources of pollution you don't know where the source is or there is too many places it is coming from.

Some consequences of ocean pollution are giant piles of floating garbage. Animals dying, animals losing their habitat and possibly even acid rain.

Do you think we should rethink this? I do, this is horrible we are polluting our ocean that is a privilege to have, if we take advantage of having it soon we won't and, it will be covered in garbage, covered in dead animals, it won't be as pretty and beautiful as it was. Just stop and think, what are we doing to this world? The earth is dying, slowly but our kids kids will not see the same thing we see if we keep acting like this! This is just plain up terrifying if you think about it.

Have you thought about it yet? What do you say? Do you! You want to change the world, then do something! Help the world to be a better place for us and you and your children's children and everyone.

Would You Drink This?

Deadly drinking water!

Causes of drinking water pollution are and could be underground storage leakages, for ex: if there was a leak in one of the pipes in a water company. Read more at   https://www.epa.gov/ust/leaking-underground-storage-tanks-corrective-action-resources. And lastly, if you use a well then if your sewage pipes leak then your sewage water could leak and soak up into your water, and also if you you use fertilizer then the chemicals from the fertilizer could soak up and get into your well water read more at https://agwt.org/content/lawns-safe-wells .

Drinking water can be polluted in these ways. Groundwater pollution caused by pesticide contamination from soil, ex: if you have a well the soil contamination could get in your water. Also if you live in somewhere where you don't have tap water then there could possibly be microorganisms in your water, also there could be Anaemia Arsenicosis Ascariasis, Botulism, Campylobacteriosis, Cholera, Cryptosporidiosis, etc. read more at… http://www.lenntech.com/library/diseases/diseases/waterborne-diseases.htm.

And lastly nutrients that help plants grow and that can possibly be in fertilizers can occur in your drinking water. And also the  eutrophication, excessive richness of nutrients in a lake or other body of water, frequently due to runoff from the land, which causes a dense growth of plant life and death of animal life from lack of oxygen.

The point source of pollution is, for ex: a leaking pipe. A point source has to be something you can point at and say “ that is the source of that pollution”.

A non-point source is when there is so many sources of pollution you don't know where the source is or there is too many places it is coming from.

We could stop this pollution by rethinking about the pipes we use. If there are leaks then lets buy new ones not just put some glue on it! Most people use plastic pipes and some use metal. We need more protective pipes, and cleaner pipes, what if we put filters in the pipes? And what if we used more metal pipes? This problem could potentially  kill a humongous amount of people if we don't fix it. Millions have already died in Africa of guinea worm because they don't have filters luckily the carter center has worked on it, and they have filters now.

So what do you say, do you want the change?

Ocean Garbage

Tastiness1.jpg by Robyn

There are three garbage patches located in the water near California one near Kuroshio and the largest is near the north pacific. Animals eat the garbage because they think it is food and most end up dying. some animals get stuck in fishing nets, plastic soda rings etc.

Consequences

Ways to help stop this is to buy the biodegradable fishing nets so if you lose it you don't contribute to the garbage patch and the animal killing. Did you know every year 28-billion pounds of plastic ends up in our ocean? Fish, seals, and dolphins every year dying to try to eat or get out of the plastic and fishing nets that have been dumped in the ocean every year 1 ton of plastic goes into the ocean and every year 3 tons of fish die.

Help stop this
Good news there are people working together to stop the garbage patch from growing any more than it already has. They are also trying to get the garbage patches smaller and they are saving lots of animals from dying in the oceans. But that's not all you can help too by cutting the plastic soda ring so they don’t get stuck around animals. That is only one way to help but there is more that you can do you can recycle your plastic bottles and you could start a compost pile. Here are some things that can be put in compost piles - banana and orange peels, egg shells.

This is SO cute, right?  NOT!!!!!!!
